The Asswin Project cares for sick and injured donkeys, horses, street dogs and other needy animals in and around the outskirts of New Delhi. The team, headed by Jean and Bob Harrison, work year round on every day of every week, and regularly visit the many construction sites, brick kilns, and so-called ‘slumdog’ encampments around New Delhi, giving treatment and care to suffering donkeys and advice and help to owners. The Donkey Sanctuary – India

DONKEY SANCTUARY MASTER LOGO CMYK_v2 redMany donkeys in India work long hours on building sites and in brick kilns to help their owners earn a basic living. Despite soaring temperatures they often have to work long hours without food, water or rest. Many suffer open wounds caused by badly made harnesses that do not fit properly. Some are beaten with sticks to make them work harder by owners who are under pressure to get the job done on time. Our vets make regular visits to brick kilns, building sites and other areas where there is a high concentration of working donkeys. The training offered to donkey owners enables them to treat minor ailments in between the charity’s visits. If treated early, wounds can heal rather than becoming more serious. Our projects cover five regions of the country, operating from Ahmedabad, Gwalior, New Delhi, Rajasthan and Solapur and cover numerous villages, brick kilns and city sites. Our project is made possible through collaboration with The Donkey Sanctuary India and The Donkey Welfare Association.
