Favorite books for 2nd graders

I chose a collection of some of my favorite chapter books and picture books for second grade read alouds. Second grade at our elementary school is memorable for foreign country unit. The kids study China, Ghana and Mexico. PickyKidPix has had a love affair with the Clementine series that started in second grade. Clementine is a spunky heroine who gets in a little bit of trouble despite herself, reminiscent of Ramona The Pest , but at an easier reading level.

I was tempted to include many books that are also on previous lists , but resisted and gave you mostly new titles to explore! Note: book covers and titles are affiliate links. Brooks is a wonderful and funny classic book from I wish Freddy the Pig got more attention that he does because my sons loved this book.
