Sometimes they are good feelings, like when a main character is finally getting together with their soul mate even though it should be me. Sometimes they are bad feelings, like when my favorite main character dies in a very unexpected way thank you, Veronica Roth. However, I always know that my beloved characters are just waiting in the wings for me whenever I need them. I wrote a pile of 10 different feelings I get and probably many other readers experience at least once, if not multiple times, in their lives.
