While most people—including scientists—agree on the benefits of reading books, not everyone seems to have been made equal when it comes to remembering their content. Others, not so much. And how can you better remember what you read? First, there is no magical hack to become a better reader. Sure, there are cool apps that give you access to book summaries, and fancy products or tools which promise to increase retention. But all of these miss the point: when it comes to reading, quality trumps quantity. But if you want to better remember insights from the books you read, it will be easier with topics you find relevant and interesting in the first place.
Even if you have read one good book in your life, you will know what reading gives. It gives you incomparable pleasure.

But the truth is, we do. To read more books, you need to cut some of that out of your life. Start by making your phone less addictive. Put your phone in greyscale mode. Leave your cracked screen cracked.
So good, in fact, that we should do as much of it as we can. More is more! Everyone should be reading one book a week — no, wait, one book a day. But where to find the time? We have to do it faster, faster, and faster still! Speed reading has become a competitive sport: a race to see who can devour the New York Times Bestseller list quickest. Reading is one of my greatest pleasures.
