Financial literacy and basic banking
NEA encourages educators to advocate for the adoption of these standards to promote student financial literacy. Students in grades K-1 create a simple savings plan. Standards are listed. Students in grades learn about cash, ATM transactions, checks, and credit cards and saving. Students in grades are introduced to credit cards, credit card advantages, and responsible credit. Includes handouts and a savings and spending card game. Why Money?

Financial literacy is one of the first steps on the road to economic strength and independence. We have developed a number of initiatives and continue to work with community partners to provide programs for both individuals, businesses and organizations. The Aboriginal Financial Literacy Committee, a group of partners who work directly with Aboriginal youth and adults has launched a series of financial literacy and support tools. The initiative, part funded by Vancity, provides financial literacy videos and a Financial Fitness handbook.
