Beginning in , the book attracted humorous reader reviews on its Amazon. The book, its prize-winning status, and sometimes its accompanying constellation of odd reviews, was commented on by publications ranging from Cracked  to the New York Times. Below, Julie tells us how a mysterious book with an underground following aka "The Worst Book Ever" became the title of her fourth collection. When I began working on poems for my new collection, I borrowed his book from our public library. I had an inkling there was something to be gleaned from it as source material. A small industrial complex of aspiring stand-up book critics had started posting very funny mock-reviews of the original Huge Ships on Amazon , and the price of used copies soared. Someone even published a parody of the entire book. The original How to Avoid Huge Ships was intended for recreational boaters.
