How to Behave and Why (Munro Leaf Classics): Munro Leaf: donkeytime.org: Books

Credit: Michael Blouin on Vimeo. I find lines that stop me, lines I want to write down, wise lines, sad lines, funny lines … more than lines, a whole universe to be marvelled at here. What is truly remarkable, however, is its narrative structure. By combining poetry, the language of screenplays, drawings, historical commentary and straight-on fiction writing, Blouin has created a storytelling format that is significantly more evolved than the traditional novel. You can pick it up, open it at random, read a few lines, stop, and then ponder the mysteries of life.

Do books like this encourage children — and their parents — to normalise more challenging behaviour? If so, is that a useful talking point or is it just a bad example for children to follow? I'm struggling with it! In No, David!

It's hard to be good. Especially if you don't really know what "being good" means. Munro Leaf, beloved author of The Story of Ferdinand , decided to try his hand at defining good behavior in his classic How to Behave and Why. The two biggest questions to ask ourselves in life, he says, are "Are most of the people I know glad that I am here? You have to be FAIR. And if you lie too much, "We can't believe ourselves or anyone else, because we don't really know what the truth is any more than a penguin and that is a stupid way to live.

  1. In a time when all the rules for raising children have been redefined dozens of times, here is a book for bewildered parents from a simpler time when we all agreed on what was right and what was wrong.
