Book and Quill
Books and quills are items used to write written books. In Bedrock Edition book and quill can be found in The player can write up to 12, characters inside the entire book. No page may be longer than 14 lines and each line can have an average of 19 characters, determined by the width of the used characters. The player has the ability to copy and paste into books. However, the paste does not work if the text being pasted is longer than a single page.
The Book and Quill is an item that can be obtained in Survival Mode. It can also be crafted by a player. It was added into the game in snapshot 12w17a for update 1. A player may write whatever they desire in this book. An out-of-game editor can be used to increase the length of books and create colored text. Once signed, it cannot be edited again. To use a book, one must first craft one see crafting below.

How do you use a book? I am trying to write something in it but it's not working. Is it just decoration? You can not because Xbox edition has not come out with end portal,spawn eggs,writing in books, the quill for the books,and iron golems. You can't read books in mcpe.
Written books are an item created after a book and quill is signed. It appears as the same red book, but without the quill, and has an enchanted-looking glint. Written books can be obtained by signing a book and quill. After it has been signed, it cannot be edited again. The label does not say "Written Book", but what the player titles it.
