Aperion Verus II Grand Floorstanding Speakers - Hands On Review
I was barely recovering from major surgery and pretty loaded up on elephant narcotics, and when I walked into my two-channel listening room I collapsed, reaching out on my way to the floor to grab what I could for support. What my hand happened to hit was one of the Verus II Grand speakers, and I watched it tumble almost as if in slow motion, off of its stand, bounce off the corner of my gear table with a thud, and plummet to the floor, careening off the shelves behind it one-by-one on the way down, like Yosemite Sam in the cartoon where he has to not cuss at Bugs Bunny if he wants his one million pounds sterling.
Aperion Audio Verus II Grand review
The two-way, bass-reflex Bookshelf features Aperion's Axially Stabilized Radiator ASR silk-dome tweeter patent pending , which has a small plate in front of the dome that appears to support a secondary suspension at the apex of the dome. The woofer uses a black, woven-Kevlar cone. The Grand Bookshelf also shares with the Tower its curved sidewalls and internal bracing. The gloss piano-black finish of the review samples was gorgeous and suggested a much higher price a gloss cherrywood veneer is also available. I was quite taken with the ease of installation of the magnetically secured cloth grille with metal frame. I listened to the Verus Grands with the grilles on and off, and heard little difference in the sound, though I ultimately preferred to leave the grilles on: the presentation was then slightly more coherent, and the highs and midrange were better integrated with each other; the only downside was a very slight loss of detail. I placed the speakers on Celestion Si stands with their center pillars loaded with sand and lead shot.
We engineered the new silk dome ASR to handle frequencies beneath most tweeters. Now the mid-high frequencies emit the same crystalline tones as their counterparts in the penthouse. From the pluck of a violin string to the screech of tires, the result is pure, authentic sound. Bi-ampable is the techie way of saying you can connect one amplifier to the woofer and the other to the combined mid and tweeter. Separating the low- and high-frequency wiring helps eliminate interaction, isolate power and reduce distortion. The 5-way gold-plated binding posts let you connect your speakers any which way you choose: bare wire, banana plugs, spades, round pins or flat pins. Not only does the gold plating give your system some bling, it also serves a more practical purpose: to resist corrosion and provide the best possible connection to your receiver.

Bigger isn't better ... except when it definitely is. Meet Aperion's Verus II Grand
Aperion Audio in Portland has a well-deserved reputation selling speakers directly to the end user through its website, offering speakers with solid designs and fine cabinetry. The quality of its products paired with terrific customer service has earned the company a loyal following. The compact speaker features a fresh design, beginning with a tapered cabinet and full-face front flange. Its all-new ASR soft dome tweeter looks a bit funky, with its vertical bar, but it is a smooth performer. Aperion pairs the tweeter with a 5. The braced fiberboard cabinet, available in cherry or gloss piano black veneers, is 13 inches tall, 7. The front grilles are held in place by magnets, making for a clean front face that looks just as good with the grilles removed.
To allay customer concerns about buying a speaker system for which no dealer audition is possible, Aperion provides a day moneyback guarantee. This includes shipping both ways in the U. Alaska and Hawaii excepted. Aperion also provides a year transferrable warranty three years on subwoofer amplifiers , with reasonable limitations. Aperion also sent us the very compact Bravus II 12D subwoofer. An Aperion system arrives like a Christmas delivery: Everything is carefully and lovingly wrapped. Move aside the velour and plastic bags which protect the tower , fasten the feet to the speaker, and then turn the box over and slide it up, up, and away, leaving the speaker upright with only the velour and plastic bags left to remove.
