prayers for our country daily prayer book

Lord's Prayer - Wikipedia

There is no greater feeling of liberty than to experience freedom from sin and death that you provided for me through Jesus Christ. Today my heart and my soul are free to praise you. For this, I am very thankful. On this Independence Day, I am reminded of all those who have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that a very high price was paid for my freedom.

Praying in Jesus’ Name - Tony Evans Sermon

3 Ways We Can Pray for Our Nation

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. Beyond a designated day of prayer, many congregations include political leaders in their weekly petitions during Sunday gatherings. Each year around holidays such as Memorial Day and Independence Day, leaders caution against conflating patriotism and worship. Though the verse does not appear in the top on Bible Gateway , searches for the passage have spiked along with recent political events, reaching 10 times their average on the day after the presidential election, according to the popular Bible site, and increased again around the inauguration the following January, according to Google Trends. We are instructed in 1 Timothy 2 to pray for those in authority—our elected officials at every level of government—to govern wisely that we may lead tranquil and peaceable lives in all godliness and reverence 1 Tim.

Two versions of this prayer are recorded in the gospels : a longer form within the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew , and a shorter form in the Gospel of Luke when "one of his disciples said to him, 'Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples. Lutheran theologian Harold Buls suggested that both were original, the Matthean version spoken by Jesus early in his ministry in Galilee , and the Lucan version one year later, "very likely in Judea ". The first three of the seven petitions in Matthew address God; the other four are related to human needs and concerns. The Matthew account alone includes the "Your will be done" and the "Rescue us from the evil one" or "Deliver us from evil" petitions. Both original Greek texts contain the adjective epiousios , which does not appear in any other classical or Koine Greek literature; while controversial, " daily " has been the most common English-language translation of this word. Protestants usually conclude the prayer with a doxology , a later addendum appearing in some manuscripts of Matthew.

Grant us patience, O Lord, to follow the road you have taken. Let our confidence not rest in our own understanding but in your guiding hand; let our desires not be for our own comfort, but for the joy of your kingdom; for your cross is our hope and our joy now and unto the day of eternity. Holy God, your knowledge of me exceeds what I grasp or see in any moment; you know me better than I know myself. Now, help me to trust in your mercy, to see myself in the light of your holiness, and grant me the grace that I may have true contrition, make an honest confession, and find in you forgiveness and perfect remission. Lord Jesus, who traveled with the disciples on the road to Emmaus: Be with us on the way, that we may know you in the scriptures, in the breaking of bread, and in the hearts of all whom we meet. I give God thanks for all that was good in the day that is ending.

We cannot deny it. Our nation is in trouble and we are facing peril. You can turn on your television or scroll through your Facebook newsfeed right now and see that there is so much violence, corruption, fear and hatred in the hearts of those around us. We are contending with issues that are causing the very foundation of our country to crumble. The Bible says the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord.

Loving Lord Jesus, it saddens me to see the way that the gospel of Jesus Christ — is being so compromised in our land. As a nation we seem to have moved so far from the true gospel of grace and our churches and fellowships seem to be embracing many alternative and compromised teachings that are not true to Your word. Revive this land I pray. Stir up the hearts of those that have come to trust in Jesus Christ but who have been enticed to follow a different gospel or who have chosen to walk the way of compromised or embrace a different type of teaching. Let those that are Your blood-bought children be stirred in their hearts to seek the truth and to draw ever closer to the Lord Jesus — and Lord for those who once trusted You but have now wandered far away -I pray that You will speak to their hearts, revive their spirit and draw them back into close fellowship with Yourself — revive this land, I pray - in Jesus name, Amen.
