The disparity between ten and twelve is caused by the fact that Chapter 5 was condensed out of three separate articles. As the title indicates, the articles included in this volume have been selected exclusively. The book and movie are completely different. It 's like comparing apples and oranges. I 'm assuming that you used the newest version with Guy Pierce. The biggest difference is probably the ommision of Haydee and Maximillien and Valentine three of the main character and the addition of Jacapo.

So by making Fernand and Edmond best friends, the deception causes the audience to be compelled to hate Fernand just as much as they did in the book. Another difference was that instead of having Bertuccio as a servant, Jacopo stayed with the Count of Monte Cristo the whole time.
If you read my review, you know that I LOVE that story and it is definitely one of my all-time favorite books. That being said, I also enjoyed the movie. I am talking about the movie starring Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce. The amount of differences are pretty astounding. The main plot line remains the same though.

Guess what. You have good taste. I agree with my husband. I thought this was a great and entertaining adaption of The Count of Monte Cristo. In the movie, some of the motives and some of the relationships changed, but the theme of revenge stayed the same.
