The energy changes during a reaction, the transition state and the structure of the activated complex relative to the reactants and products are developed. Reaction kinetics are discussed as an aid to the determination of the rate determining step and the mechanism of a reaction. The production of many man-made chemicals such as drugs, plastics, food additives, fabrics depend on organic reactions.
