Out of pages, Thomas left you with the cliff hanger of "and finally he slept" 29 times. Sounds fun, doesn't it? Then try to tell me you di. Then try to tell me you didn't notice it. Although this book was fast passed, a lot of it was filler and this book could really just have been shrunken into about pages at the max.
The Scorch Trials is a young adult post-apocalyptic dystopian science fiction novel written by American author James Dashner and the second book, fourth chronologically, in The Maze Runner series. The book starts with Thomas sleeping in the dormitory with the other teenagers — known as the Gladers , who had escaped from the Maze in the previous book — where they had been brought by a group of rescuers. Thomas is woken by a telepathic communication with Teresa, the only girl from the Glade, who is afraid. As Thomas wakes up, he finds that the facility is being attacked by Cranks — aggressive zombie-like people that have been affected by a plague known as the Flare. The Flare is a disease that attacks the brain, causing victims to lose their humanity and become crazy. Cranks were normal citizens before The Flare, after which they became crazed zombie-like killers. Thomas and the others escape into the facility's common area and discover that their rescuers are dead.
It deals with the events surrounding the lives of Thomas, Teresa, and the other survivors immediately following the events of the Maze in the first installment. Thomas, Teresa, and the other Gladers, having been rescued by the Maze, are put into dormitories for the night. When they awaken, Teresa has been separated and replaced by Aris, from another Maze group, the rescuers are dead, and there are Cranks struggling to get in. A representative from WICKED announces they are about to face the Scorch Trials, and will have two weeks and no rules to reach the safe haven one hundred miles north of their starting location. Thomas and the other Gladers encounter deadly traps, Cranks, and the group of girls of which Aris was formerly a part as they struggle to get across a scorching desert, through a city, and over the mountains beyond the city. Thomas's group brings along Jorge and Brenda, two early-stage Cranks, who agree to help them get through the city in exchange for a shot at getting a cure.

That's the 1 New York Times Bestseller in which a bunch of kids get stuck in a maze and eventually escape by running a lot. You know the one. It's where people get betrayed and alliances break and all kinds of other drama goes down. James Dashner described The Maze Runner as " Lord of the Flies meets Ender's Game meets Holes " source , but maybe it's Entertainment Weekly that really hits the nail on the head when it calls the series as a whole " The Scorch Trials is all about making it through a mysterious land without dying. That means that the characters have to place their trust in random people—and that they have to explore the depths of an unknown city.
