Can anyone recommend me a good guide book for Sri Lanka. We are going there in July on Honeymoon. We have already booked to stay in Kandy , Yala , The tea factory and Galle and I wanted to get a good guide book to give us some ideas about the areas we are going. The Rough Guide to Sri Lanka is the best one. It used to be a toss up between that one and Lonely Planet, but the Rough Guide is far better these days.

Sri Lanka, an island South of India, packs an extraordinary variety of places to visit within it's modest size. Lapped up by the Indian Ocean, the coastline is lined with idyllic - and often refreshingly undeveloped - beaches, while the mainland boasts a compelling variety of landscapes ranging from wildlife-rich lowland jungles to the misty highlands of the hills, swathed in tea plantations. The tropical island has become more of a hot-spot to keen travellers in recent years, whereas before it was shadowed by its more dominant neighbour, India.

Thinking of what guidebook to get for a one month trip. Had some good experience with Bradt guides recently so will probably get this one. On the other hand our recent experience with lp guides was not that great. Is the lp Sri Lanka any better?

My visit to Sri Lanka — a jewel—shaped country in the Indian Ocean — was an unexpected surprise. But it turned out to be an amazing experience. I loved every bit of Sri Lanka: the verdant landscape, the delicious food; the crumbling, overgrown ruins; the abundant wildlife; and especially the welcoming locals who took hospitality to the next level. Traveling Sri Lanka is a relatively easy thing to do. It can be a little chaotic, with overcrowded buses moving along clogged roads where lanes are mere suggestions, and trains packed to the gills with people hanging off the edges which actually is kind of fun. But there are a few things you should know before you visit Sri Lanka to avoid getting scammed, overspending, and, like me, missing some of the scenic trains! What you do find is a poor excuse for Western food that is overpriced and often a chain.

Sri Lanka is a small island in the Indian Ocean off the south-east tip of India, with tropical and warm climate. The island is encircled by beaches, and from space, it looks outlined in white! Pretty cool! You can rarely travel anywhere along the coast without bumping upon a stunning stretch of sand, and many of them deserted! Sri Lanka is ideal for water sport like diving, snorkelling, kiting and surfing. Inland you can stretch your legs taking hikes among tea plantations high up in the mountains above m. Unesco has recognised eight World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka, pretty impressive for a relatively small island!
