Popular World War 2 Eastern Front BooksThis month marks the anniversary of Operation Barbarossa. Test you knowledge with our dedicated quiz! Despite covering a theme that has seen written millions of books and thousands of photo books, I am sure that this book, written and edited by the excellent Ian Baxter, presents unpublished photos of absolute interest for any enthusiast of World War II and German armed forces. This book makes a very good job of arguing the case with solid evidence, some fresh insights, and presents it in an absorbing and enjoyable text with good illustration, including a photo plate section. This book from Pen and Sword not only shows photographic images of the Red Army at war, but also includes a useful text with regard all aspects of it. From recruitment and training, to political teaching, experiences at the front and especially food, the life of a Soviet soldier is thoroughly covered. I have not seen any of the images previously and very few are posed propaganda.
