The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by Hiawyn Oram

Lewis points. I remember at my vast old age in 7th grade sadly concluding that I was too old for the Narnia books now. I had already read them many times. Then I took them up again in college and found new riches. No kid who reads this book will ever look at a closet door the same way again. The first series I read to myself, starting halfway through when I switched from listening to my mom read them aloud, to sneaking them off to my room to read ahead. I was convinced that someday I would meet the Pevensies and tell them that I knew about Narnia, too.

The Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe Chapter 3

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #1)

Four children — Lucy, Peter, Susan and Edmund all enter Narnia — a magical world where animals talk and the White Witch who reigns as Queen makes it always winter and never Christmas. They enter at different times, but from the same place — the old Wardrobe. Lucy enters first and encounters the Faun who is in the pay of the White Witch and tries to kidnap her. Edmund, who enters second, finds the White Witch and thinks she's kind and caring, only to later discover that she is a cruel, evil and untrustworthy woman. Susan and Peter enter together and find Lucy and Edmund. They all meet Mr. Beaver who invites them to lunch at their cottage.
