Heaven to me is standing in a field full of donkeys. These wise, old creatures are gentle, sociable and inquisitive. Hardy and nimble, donkeys still provide a lifeline for millions of families in parts of Europe, Asia, Africa and South America, carrying essential building materials, food and water and often working for long hours in high temperatures.
Donkeys possess deeply therapeutic qualities, acting as a calming influence on other animals and providing endless comfort to people. Time spent with donkeys is different. The world slows down. Donkeys have the ability to simply be.
“To me they are the most beautiful, and the most underrated, animals in the world…” Dr Elisabeth Svendsen, MBE and founder of The Donkey Sanctuary (1930-2011)
